Tourists visit Mecca, the most revered and holy place to all Muslims, all year round, however, the best season to visit Mecca, would depend on a number of factors. The practice of Hajj, involving traveling to Mecca by every Muslim at least once in their lifetime is a pillar of the religion. This place is one of the oldest inhabited cities in Saudi Arabia and the birthplace of Islam. Entry to Mecca is prohibited for non-Muslims. The government is very strict about this law and does not take violations lightly. Climate
Here are some thing you need to know about the climate of Macca.
- Mecca, like most Arabian cities has a hot and arid climate. Summers are long and dry, winters are cool and dry.
- There is very little rainfall and it rains usually in the winter season between November and January.
- Summer temperatures can cross, on average the dreaded 100 degree F mark in the noon. Winters here are comfortable at 64 degrees at noon time.
- The humidity levels are relatively low and this means the sweaty stickiness will not be an issue.

Pilgrimage
Hajj is a sacred duty that every able bodied Muslim has to perform at least once in his or her lifetime. This is one of the five pillars of Islam. Here are a few things you should know about Hajj.
- Hajj literally means ‘intend to travel’ and it has a two fold meaning. One, is the act of traveling and two, the intention of the heart.
- Hajj season normally lasts five to six days between 8th and 12th Dhu al-Hijjah, the 12th month of the Islamic calendar.
- The millions of people who swarm into the city to perform the seven holy rituals usually extend the pilgrimage by two weeks.
- The best season to visit Mecca to perform the Hajj will be the designated dates according to the lunar calendar, mostly October.
There can be visits to Mecca to perform Hajj outside of the designated dates as well. This is known as the Umrah, this is also encouraged, but not mandatory.
The Mecca visitors guide cannot be complete without listing places you need to see in this ancient city. The mosque, Masjid Al- Haram, is the most important, oldest and biggest mosque in the world. Covering an area 356,800 square meters and can hold over two million devotees at a time. Another place that is of interest is right across the street from the mosque, the Abraj al Bait, the third tallest building in the world and the largest clock face till date. The tent town of Mina, the old quarter, Marwa hills, and the Hira caves are also important places on the Mecca visitors guide.
