A Journey Planner

Preparing for a journey can be loads of fun, but spending money is a pain in the pocket. Start your own travel planner for your holiday in advance and set an amount aside in your budget to pay for them. When the time comes, you will have a holiday budget that you get to spend. A great holiday isn’t about being totally occupied 24 hours a day while you are away. Plan few activities and make sure you set some time aside to relax as well.

Planning your journey

  • Book everything you can online, you will usually get a better deal
  • Go to the website you can compare all the hotel rates from all major travel agencies
  • If you are a member of a motoring organisation make the most of any special deals available to you
  • Pay for your overseas return travel tickets with your St.George Platinum Credit Card automatically receive up to three months free travel insurance, which includes coverage for such items as overseas medical and hospital expenses, loss or damage to personal items such as luggage and travel documents, rental car excess, accommodation & meal expenses when travel is delayed
  • Coupons are often great deals on your receipts
  • Plan about on how to get there, by flight or driving can be half the fun of your holiday and you get to see a lot of places
  • If you are driving, consider getting a DVD player for the car, kids won’t have to be glued to it for the whole trip, but it is nice to get a break from the hundreds of questions and the endless ‘are we there yet’ refrain
  • Think about hiring a caravan for a change, you can go where you like and take your accommodation with you

Pack up your things

  • Choose clothes appropriate for the climate. If you are going somewhere warm and leaving a cold climate consider leaving a set of warm clothes in the car if you are leaving it at the airport, or with friends if you are being collected
  • Stick with one basic colour scheme preferably a dark one which won’t show marks and wrinkles so much
  • Make clothing items do double duty, men’s shorts can be double as swimming trunks, a woman’s tankini top can be an evening top. A shirt can layer over a dress in place of a jacket
  • Take multiple thinner items which can be layered instead of one bulky heavier piece. Thermal underwear is fantastic for cooler climates
